NATURAL STONES

Natural stone refers to rock materials formed by geological processes over millions of years and extracted from the earth for use in construction, architecture, and decorative applications. Each type of stone such as granite, marble, quartzite, limestone etc. has unique origins, minerals, and properties.

GRANITE

Granite is a hard, durable igneous rock that forms when magma cools slowly beneath the Earth's surface, allowing large crystals to develop. It is primarily made of quartz, feldspar, and mica, giving it speckled appearance that can range in color from white and gray to pink or black. Because of its strength and resistance to weathering, granite is widely used in construction, monuments, and interior countertops.

MARBLE

Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone is subject to intense heat and pressure, causing its minerals to recrystallize into a dense, smooth structure. It is composed mainly of calcite, which gives it a distinctive veined appearance and a soft luminous quality. Marble ranges in color from white to shades of gray, black, green or pink, depending on mineral impurities. Known for its elegance and workability, marble is commonly used in sculptures, architectural features, floors, and decorative surfaces.

QUARTZITE

Quartzite is hard, durable metamorphic rock that forms when quartz rich sandstone is exposed to intense heat and pressure, causing its quartz grains to fuse into a dense interlocking structure. Composed almost entirely of quartz, it typically appears light colored often white or gray, but can also show shades of pink, red, or green depending on mineral impurities. Because of its exceptional hardness and resistance to abrasion, quartzes commonly used for countertops, flooring, wall cladding and outdoor application.

SOAPSTONE

Soapstone is a dense, metamorphic rock composed primarily of talc, giving it a naturally smooth, silky feel. Typically ranging in shade of grey, green, or black, it develops a rich patina over time. Unlike many other natural stones, soapstone is non-porous, highly heat-resistant, and chemically inert, making it naturally stain-resistant and ideal for high-use environment. Though softer than granite or quartzite, it can be easily repaired by sanding. Soapstone is commonly used for countertops, sinks, fireplace surrounds and laboratory surfaces.

LIMESTONE

Limestone is a sedimentary rock formed from the accumulation of mineral-rich shells, corals, and organic materials, primarily composed of calcite. It typically appears in soft earthy tones such as cream, beige, gray, or light brown, often with subtle fossils or natural veining. Limestone has a smooth, matte texture and a warm, natural look, but because it is relatively soft and porous, it requires sealing and gentle care in high-use areas. Valued for its organic beauty, limestone is commonly used for countertops, flooring, wall cladding, and architectural features.

NATURAL STONES

Other Natural Stones Used for Countertops

  • Travertine--Similar to Limestone more porous, typically used with a filled finish.

  • Slate--Dense, matte, and resistant to hear; usually available in darker colors.

  • Onyx--Beautiful and translucent; softer and better for low-use or decorative areas.

  • Dolomite--Harder than marble but not as hard as granite; white and gray tones.

  • Basalt--Dark, fine-grained volcanic stone; strong and hear resistant.

  • Sandstone--Sedimentary; formed from compacted sand grains, used in construction and paving.
